When we arrived we received the keys from the receptionist in the lobby. Its kind of odd to give someone 2 keys, only 1 key fob to open the main entrance door to the building, and a parking pass in a little mangled envelope that had been taped up over and over to hold it together. Should have known by the way the keys were handed to us that this was the start of something bad. When you first walk in you notice the huge snags in the carpet. The nail tack under the carpet was exposed. In addition to the snags, the carpet was stained in multiple places. The kitchen is advertised as “fully outfitted kitchen” Its stocked only with the bare minimum. While looking in the cabinets to see what was there, the lazy susan cabinet was very dirty and bugs were found. We had to provide our own paper towels and toilet paper. There was some dish soap and garbage bags probably from previous renters. The furniture in the apartment was very cheap especially the living room table. The hallway lights between the bedrooms would come on briefly, and shut off. I booked for a party of 6. We had 4 bath towels. The extra towels were delivered the following day. My kids stayed on the pull-out sofa bed. The extra sheets look like they have never been washed, the pillows didn’t have pillow cases on them. The entertainment stand in the living room with the tv, the blinds, and other furniture had about a 1” thick layer of dust on it. (I have taken pictures of all of this and saved all my communication with the owner for documentation). The white walls have black scuff marks all over. I had been in contact with the owner because I wanted a 2-hour extension on our check out. I had been communicating about it 8 days before we arrived. I even had to reach out to the owner on how to gain access to the unit when we arrived. After we arrived, I messaged the owner in total 3 additional times about the check out. He asked me to reach back out to him on Sunday. I did, no answer. I messaged again on Monday, he responded 1 hour prior to check out saying the unit had been rented, the cleaners were coming at 12:30 but we could stay till then. The owner, said we could leave our luggage downstairs with the receptionist. I asked her, and she said “No, they don’t do that.” 11:34, we got a knock on the door. It was the next renter coming in. They wanted access immediately even though check in time is not until 4pm. We had to rush to grab everything and leave.
the location, for a Washington visitor, by car or Metro, was great. the building was excellent, with lots of extra features. the apartment itself was not up to the usual standards of VRBO; which was previously described in a June 2018 review. the carpet was torn is several areas, with lots of stains. the living room couch fabric was dirty; and the living room table was wobbly. while most VRBO rentals provide essential inexpensive items, like a small amount of laundry detergent, and dishwasher detergent, this apartment does not. in the master bathroom, 3 out of 4 light bulbs were dead.
The location is great and the security at the apartment was nice. The apartment however was lacking. The sofa was stained to the point we bought a king sheet to cover it & the floor. No toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags or soap of any kind was there so we had to buy it at a close by CVS. There is also only 1 bar stool so not like the pictures at all. Only 2 cereal bowls and no dish soap. Beds were below par, just a mattress on a frame, no box spring so super soft. It worked for my family, but would not recommend or rent again.
The only reason this is not a one star rating is because the bathrooms were clean. Walking in to the unit on our week long first family trip to DC was embarrassing because I booked this. The carpet has long snags in it, the carpet is stained and dirty throughout. The couch and lounger is disgusting with stains, so much so we took out some spare sheets in the closet and covered the couch and lounger. The walls are in bad need of repainting in most places. The pillows on the beds are so old, stained, and yellowed that I went and bought a can of Lysol to soak each pillow with before sleeping. At this point I was so disgusted I stripped all the beds to spray down the mattresses and re-wash all the bedding on hot as well as the towels just to be certain. Every piece of furnishing is literally the cheapest thing anyone could possibly find. From th furniture, to the decorations, and everything else in between. We went and bought cleaning materials, toilet paper ( because there was none ), laundry soap and softener ( because there was none ), plug ins because it smelled musty, and other essentials. I would have canceled this as soon as we walked in if it wasn’t for my family asking me not too. I will be asking for some sort of refund for our troubles.
We stayed at this apartment for a weekend on the occasion of 2 of our grandchildrens' baptism. Great location. Great apartment. Owners were responsive to our needs. I would encourage them to supply more towels and sheets for the pull out in the living room. We would definitely stay here again.
This apartment was more than we expected. It was very well cleaned and spacious. The apartment had everything we needed, including welcome chocolates to greet us on upon arrival. The pool on the terrace was an added bonus. Would definitely return!
