Loganton, Pennsylvania
The 1870s farmhouse is a great place to stay if you're looking for a rural retreat in Pennsylvania. It's located in a small village surrounded by family farms, mostly Amish, so you'll be able to experience a peaceful and authentic slice of Pennsylvania Dutch life. The property is also close to several universities; Penn State, Bucknell, Lycoming, and Lock Haven, a trophy trout stream, state game lands, and a state forest, so there's plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. And the clear night sky with little light pollution makes it a great place for stargazing.
Here are some of the pros and cons of the property:
Pros:
Rental is for the house, excluding the unfinished summer kitchen, all three bedrooms, kitchen, laundry, and living room.
Rural location with Amish neighbors
Close to several universities, a trophy trout stream, state game lands, state forest lands and state parks
Clear night sky for stargazing
Lawn with fire pit and plenty of parking
Local TV stations and a disc player with movies
Easy distance to the Little League World Series
Events at Beaver Stadium and the Bryce Jordan Center
Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair, and multiple craft shows in the Centre and Clinton County area
Cons:
No WiFi (hot spot needed for internet TV use)
Only one local restaurant and a pizza and sub shop
30 minute drive to more restaurants and shops
Overall, our 1870s farmhouse is a great place to stay if you're looking for a relaxing and peaceful vacation in Pennsylvania. The property has a lot to offer, and the only real downside is the lack of WiFi. However, if you're not a heavy internet user, I think you'll be able to enjoy your stay without it. Those arriving here from the east on I-80, will know you are close when you see the Pennsylvania Wilds sign, a bull elk on the keystone, along the highway. Five minutes from an Interstate 80 exit puts our middle of nowhere place in the middle of many sought out destinations.
Tim and Mary are some of the nicest hosts out there! They were responsive, welcoming and kind. Our stay was fun and full of laughter!
Tim and Mary are awesome. Really can’t say enough about them and the property. Super clean, kitchen, fire pit, quiet. Beautiful location. I brought my wife and three boys down for a Penn State game and had an awesome trip. Cooked hot dogs on the fire pit last night of the stay. Would love to come again to see more of the area.
What a delightful, charming home! Our group of 6vstayed after. Penn State football game. Conveniently just 40 minutes from the stadium, the home was immaculate, well stocked with every possible amenity and the provision of milk, eggs and Amish bread was beyond thoughtful Tim and Mary were so nice and accommodating. Communication was excellent from the beginning. The area is so incredibly beautiful. We want to come back and explore the area further.
Tim and Mary were so helpful and friendly. We had everything that a home would have and much more. Never had a better stay!!!!!
This was an amazing property. It provided exactly what we needed for the short weekend. Hosts were great. Met us when we arrived and reviewed the house with us. Home was very clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again when we are back in the area.
We were so pleased to find such a delightful and charm place to stay as we had a college cross country meet to go to. The house was super clean, very organized and well stocked for anything and everything we could have needed! Tim and Mary were super kind and welcomed us as we got there (even though we did arrive later in the evening). They made sure we knew where everything was and also were so sweet to provide fresh eggs and fresh homemade bread! This was such a nice and thoughtful touch! We will definitely be back the next time our son has a cross country meet in Lock Haven!
Everything was great.
I have never had a better experience with any vacation house! Tim and his wife graciously allowed us to check in very early with little notice, to accommodate my infant daughter. They also offered a highchair/seat for her, that is their grandchildrens'. The house was perfect and spacious for our family trip. We were driving to Williamsport for the Little League World Series, but liked being out of the hustle and bustle (about 35 min drive). The hosts thought of everything, from milk, butter, eggs, and fresh homemade bread, to coffee and cereal in the cupboards. If we ever come back to the area, we will definitely be staying here!
Everything was good and as advertised.
Nice place...everything as advertised! Would recommend.
Tim and Mary provided a wonderful place for our family. They are very kind and thoughtful and the location was perfect for our needs. The valley is beautiful, no matter what time of year you visit.
This was the last destination on a nearly 3,000 mile trip for us. Tim was wonderful dealing with a late check in for us due to several road delays. The house had such a welcoming smell and there was even a loaf of Amish bread, with milk, butter and eggs in the refrigerator. Unfortunately we were only able to spend a few hours there due to the late arrival but we are trying to plan a return in a couple of years. We’ll definitely look for this location first! The house had so much character, I honestly don’t know what our favorite part about it was! Thank you again for such a pleasant night!
Busy street and steep stairs to bedrooms, but beautiful Amish countryside surrounding area. A unique experience. Hosts very gracious!
Our stay was absolutely wonderful. The location was convenient to Lock Haven University for graduation. Our Host was very helpful and easy to communicate with. The house was well furnished and supplied. Our Host even provided fresh farm eggs. ❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful front porch for relaxing and watching the Amish carriages go by, beautiful scenery and wildlife
Such an amazing house with a fantastic location. Beautiful scenery and so fun learning about the Amish communities nearby. We had absolutely everything we needed for the stay. We came up for our daughter's graduation from Penn State and our family stayed for a few days. Hosts were very kind and helped us with a few ideas of where to explore locally. Highly recommend!
Comfortable, clean, cozy farmhouse nestled in valley among farms and hillside. Great, friendly hosts!
We had a great experience during our stay . The hosts, Tim & Mary, were easy to communicate with and so welcoming. The home is clean and cozy with the necessary amenities- we were all very comfortable. We stayed here after an event at Penn State, so we didn't get to spend much time on the property, however it was easy access from route 80, and located in a quiet, beautiful and scenic area. I would definitely recommend this stay for anyone looking in the area.
Hosts were very welcoming and friendly!
