Culturally, Sarasota has a lot to offer for lovers of the fine arts. The Sarasota Orchestra, which for years was known as the Florida West Coast symphony, is famous for its three weeks Sarasota music festival which attracts performers, teachers and students from all around the world. Altogether Sarasota has more than a dozen cultural performance centres and organizations such as the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, the Sarasota Film Society, Sarasota Opera House, and the Sarasota Ballet just to name a few  
 
One of the city’s true gems is the Mary Selby Botanical Gardens which is a 15 acre natural wonder that features beautiful plants and natural wildlife. Here you’ll find a children’s rainforest garden with a waterfall and a koi pond.
 
It was widely viewed that Sarasota was the epicentre of the 2008 housing crash. Perhaps no area of the country was hit harder than this one. However, nearly 10 years later, the housing market has rebounded fully. 
 
Schools in Sarasota are administered by the School Board of Sarasota County. The district is made up of nine high schools, nine middle schools, 24 elementary schools, six special schools, 11 charter schools, and two alternative schools.
