St. Louis is an Independent city located in Missouri. Missouri was built along the Western Bank of the Mississippi River, this area borders Illinois. City Museum – This museum consists largely of repurposed architectural and industrial objects. This museum attracts close to a million visitors a year. This museum was founded by Bob Cassilly and his wife Gail. When they looked at the space back in 1993 it was a vacant shoe factory and warehouse. It wasn’t until 1997 that this museum opened and started drawing in large crowds. Bob Cassilly remained in his position as artistic director until he passed away in 2011. This 600,000 square foot museum has everything you could imagine and then some. On the third floor there is a circus ring that has daily live acts as well as concerts. There is also a fifth floor to this museum that consists of apartments. These apartments are known as the “Lofts at City Museum” and range in since from 1,300 to almost 3,000 square feet.
The Saint Louis Zoo – This 90 acre zoo has more than 600 different species and over 18,000 types of animals. This zoo is a leader when it comes to an animal management, research, conservation and education. The best part about this zoo is that there is no admission unless there is a special attraction going on. This place is perfect for you to take your kids to educate them on all the different types of species and animals that roam the earth.
