Tomball is in Harris County, Texas and is part of the Houston Metro area. The population here back in 2010 was just under 11,000. As of 2017 the current population here was just under 12,000. Tomball was originally named “Peck” but in 1907 the town was renamed after a local congressman by the name of Thomas Henry Ball. The reason the town was renamed after him was because he had a large role in the development of the Port of Houston. Tomball was not incorporated until 1933. When this incorporation happened, Houston did not incorporate Tomball’s territory into its city limits. According to the United States Census Bureau, Tomball is a total of 11.9 square miles in size with a very small portion of that being water. The climate here is categorized as humid subtropical which means that the summers tend to be long, hot and sometimes oppressive. The winters however tend to feel very short, but they can get a bit chilly. The coldest part of the year here goes from the end of November until the end of February when the daily average high is around 68 degrees. The average low for this time is around 43 degrees which is relatively mild for this time of year. The hottest part of the year goes for just about four months. From the end of May until the end of September the daily average high is just about 87 degrees. The low for this time of year is around 74 degrees. The Tomball Independent School District serves Tomball as well as the areas surrounding Tomball. These areas are Lakewood Grove, Village Creek, Lakewood Grove, Creekside Park Village as well as the communities of Decker Prairie, Rose Hill and Hufsmith. Only fishing is permitted on this water so no other water based activities likes swimming or kayaking is allowed here. Besides the 7 acre fishing lake there are five playgrounds located in this park as well as a picnic area and a sports field for you to play with friends and family on. There is also more than 8 miles of nature trails as well as an observation deck. There is also a dog park for your four legged friends as well as a barbecue pavilion that has seating for up to 250. This is the perfect place to enjoy one of those warm summer days here in Tomball. The pavilion is a great place to have a Fourth of July picnic and the best part is that the park already has a spot for you to barbecue at so you don’t have to lug your own charcoal grill here.
