Background, General Information and Weather Here in League City, Texas –
League City is located in Galveston County, Texas and is within the Greater Houston Metro Area. It was incorporated back in 1961. At the time of the 2000 census the population here was 45,444. Fast forward to the year 2010 when the next United States Census report was taken and the population here shot up to 83,560. This means that in just ten years, the population nearly doubled here! Then in 2017 there was a non census poll taken and it showed that the current population was almost 105,000. This portion of Texas is ever expanding and even has a small portion North of Clear Creek that is within Harris Count that is zoned for both residential and commercial use in the very near future. According to the United States Census Bureau, League City is a total of 53.0 square miles in size with about 1.7 miles of that being water. If you were to look on a map you would see that League City is approximately 23 miles Southeast of Houston and about the same distance Northwest of Galveston. One of the main reasons that League City is so popular is due to it being home to several waterside resorts like “Waterford Harbor and Yacht Club Marina” and “South Shore Harbor Resort and Conference Center.” One very interesting fact about League City is that between the years 2000 and 2005 League City actually surpassed Galveston as Galveston County’s largest city. When it comes to the weather here in League City it falls under the category of “Humid Subtropical.” This means that the summer months are going to be long, hot and often times oppressive. The winter months on the other hand tend to be much shorter, cool and windy. The cool season here in League City lasts for a little less than three months. From the beginning of December until almost the end of February the daily average high is around 68 degrees. The low for this time is just about 47 degrees. The hot season here lasts for exactly four months. From May 26th until September 26th the daily average high is just around 86 degrees. The low for this time is a very comfortable 77 degrees. League City receives zero inches of snow per year which is great if you want to live somewhere where you do not need large winter coats and gloves. There have been times during the winter months when the temperature has dropped to 35 degrees which is just above the freezing mark. Most times when this happens there is some frost that forms on the grass and cars but this usually melts as soon as the sun comes up. During the summer months the temperature has gone as high as 96 degrees. This usually happens during July and August. Although League City does not receive any snow it does get a decent amount of rain. You can expect to see about 60 inches of rain here per year.
Education in League City –
The Clear Creek Independent School District is located in League City and serves most of the Clear Lake Area as well as neighboring parts of the Houston – The Woodlands – Sugar Land Metro Area. This school district is quite large spanning more than 103 square miles and serves more than 41,000 students. This school district serves the entire city of League City as well as Clear Lake Shores, El Lago, Kemah, Nassau Bay, Seabrook, Taylor Lake Village and Webster. This school district also serves portions of other municipalities such as Pearland, Pasadena, Houston and Friendswood which is located in Harris County. Within this incredibly large school district there are 26 elementary schools, 10 intermediate schools and 5 high schools. There are also three alternative schools here as well bringing the grand total to 44 schools. There is also two private schools here and they are the “Bay Area Christian School” which is for kids in grades kindergarten through eighth as well as the “St. Mary School” which is a Roman Catholic school for kids in grades kindergarten through eighth.
Parks and Recreation –
There are several parks here in League City but these two are worth mentioning. The “Boundless Playground” is a playground for the more than 3,600 children with disabilities that live here in League City. This park is a place where parents can take their children to play in a fun and welcoming environment. This park is a treasure for parents who have children with disabilities because it is catered specifically to them and their needs. This park is ADA and electrical accessible. There is also “Bayridge Park Playground” which features a softball field, basketball court and a playground area for the little kids. This is a great place to go to spend some time outdoors with your children!
