The economy here in Humble relies mainly on petroleum and has since this small city was established. The Humble Oil and Refining Company was the city’s namesake when it was founded in 1911. Then in 1919 Standard Oil of New Jersey took a 50% interest in this company. Fast forward to 1959 and Standard Oil had acquired the rest of the Humble Oil and Refining Company. Just a few years later in 1973 Standard Oil merged with its parent company to become Exxon Company, USA.

Humble is served by the Humble Independent School District. The city of Humble has three elementary schools and they are Lakeland Elementary School, Humble Elementary School and Jack M. Fields, Senior Elementary School. When it comes to middle school there is the Ross Sterling Middle School which was formally known as Humble Middle School. Finally there is Humble High School, Atascocita High School as well as Summer Creek High School. The Mary Magdalene School which is in Humble is a Catholic school for grades K-8. There is not a Catholic high school in Humble but if you are looking for the nearest one it can be found in North Harris County. It is called the Frassati Catholic High School. There is also the Christian Life Center Academy which is a private school that is in the city of Houston which is in close proximity to Humble. This school has a Humble address but is not actually in the town of Humble. The Lone Star Community College serves students seeking a higher education in this area.
