Woodstock is a small city located in Cherokee County, Georgia. It can be found 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta and 11 miles south of the city of Canton, the Cherokee County seat. Woodstock has a population of approximately 25,000 and that number is growing all the time. In fact, Woodstock was named one of the United States’ 10 fastest growing suburbs in 2007.

 

Not unlike a lot of Georgia communities, Woodstock has a warm and very liveable climate. The average high in the winter is 54° while in the summer, it routinely gets up in the low 90s. Woodstock records an average of 213 sunny days per year which is above the national average.

For anyone who enjoys and hiking, boating, swimming, or any other outdoor activity, Woodstock has something here for you. Highlighting Woodstock’s easy access to nature is its proximity to Lake Altoona, a 12,000-acre lake which is a popular spot for boaters, swimmers, and fishermen. The nearby Blankets Creek Trail system provides mountain bike trails not far from the shoreline.

 

Having plenty of green, recreation space is a major priority for the entire community as is evidenced in the hard work of the Greenprints Alliance. The Alliance is a local non-profit organization that is planning and overseeing a 60-mile network of multi-use trails and green space around Woodstock. This is in addition to the impressive public parks that are already in existence. Dupree Park features a large playground, tennis courts basketball courts, a walking trail, and a fishing pond. The Park at City Center features a gazebo, war memorial, and the iconic park fountain.

 

The Park at City Center is also the home to one of Woodstock’s longest running and most popular music events, the Woodstock Concert Series. First launched in 1998, the series attracts some of the biggest musical acts around for free family friendly concerts.

 

Fans of the visual and performing arts will be drawn to Elm Street, which is downtown Woodstock’s thriving arts center which offers exhibits and art installations year-round. There is also plenty to enjoy in the performing arts, including live stage plays, musicals as well as classes in drama, music, and the arts. Elm Street is really the pulse of the arts community in Woodstock.

 

Schools in Woodstock are administered by the Cherokee County School District. This district has been regularly recognized as one of the higher performing public school systems in the state of Georgia. There are 24 elementary schools, seven middle schools, and six high schools on top of a handful of charter and alternative schools.
