Punta Gorda is a small coastal city in Charlotte County on Florida’s Gulf coast. It is nestled on the southern bank of the Peace River and the eastern shore of Charlotte Harbor. It has a population of 16,641 however, it is part of the Tri-City area also consisting of Sarasota and Bradenton.

Schools in Punta Gorda are administered by the Charlotte County Public School system. There are five public schools located within the city limits: Charlotte High School, Punta Gorda Middle School, Sally Jones Elementary school, East Elementary school, and Baker Pre-K Center.

There is one private grade school and Punta Gordon, Good Shepherd Day School and Florida Southwestern Collegiate High School is the district’s only charter school.
