Apopka is a mid-sized city in Orange County Florida, in the greater Orlando-Kissimmee area. Located just 16 miles northwest of downtown Orlando, Apopka covers a land area of approximately 32 square miles with a population approaching 50,000. Known for its fern production, Apopka is often called the "Indoor Foliage Capital of the World.” Apopka also boasts an excellent reputation for close-knit community living, earning recognition from Forbes as being the 14th Friendliest City in America in 2012.

 

Apopka features a humid subtropical climate which sees highs reaching 71 in the winter months and 92 in the summer months. The summers tend to bring heavy rains while the winters are often drier.

The complex is also home to the Apopka Amphitheater which often hosts exciting live stage and music performances. The amphitheater has a seating capacity of 1,500 and lawn seating for as many as 5,000.

 

Another great source of community pride and spirit is Alonzo Williams Park. The three-acre facility boasts a multi-purpose field perfect for a game of soccer or football, outdoor basketball courts, a softball field, a neighborhood community center and a playground.

 

For those who prefer some water-adjacent recreation activities, there is no shortage of options from which to choose. One of the more popular choices is the strikingly beautiful Wekiwa Springs State Park. Located at the headwaters of the Wekiwa River, this park offers visitors the opportunity to relax in a natural setting, enjoy a picnic, or swim in the cool spring. There are 13 miles of trails provide opportunities for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. Canoeists and kayakers can paddle along the Wekiwa River and Rock Springs Run.  For those looking to spend a few nights under the stars, there are both full facility campground and primitive camping areas.

 

Schools in Apopka are administered by the Orange County Public School District, one of the larger school districts in the state of Florida. The Orange County School District has been recognized for its high achievement in the area of urban school education.
