Cypress is located in Harris County, Texas. It is 24 miles Northwest of Houston. This portion of Texas is unincorporated. Cypress ranked 50th in the top 100 for highest growing urban areas in the United States which is an incredible feat. The Cypress area is one of the largest suburban communities in all of Houston due to the large amount of development that has taken place in the last thirty years. As of 2017, the population in Cypress was just over 174,000.
Weather in Cypress
The weather in Cypress varies from hot and humid during the summer months to much cooler and mild during the winter months. June, July, August and September are the hottest months when the average high can reach the mid 90’s. The cooler months are December, January and February when the high is somewhere in the mid 60’s. The lows for these months rarely go below 40 degrees which makes for a very mild, comfortable winter.
Education in Cypress
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District which is also known as Cy-Fair covers more than 186 square miles of land and employs just under 13,000 people. There are more than 150,000 students spanning 91 campuses. There is a staggering 56 elementary schools, 18 middle schools, 13 high schools as well as four special programs facilities. The high school graduation rate in Cypress is almost 93 percent which ranks as one of the highest graduation rates in the nation.
Stadiums
The Ken Pridgeon Stadium is a football stadium that acts as the field for all Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s varsity football games. Back in May of 2014 the stadium received $40 million to help upgrade the stadium as part of a $1.2 billion bond referendum. The project took place in two parts. The first part took care of upgrading the parking lot and improving the lighting. The second part focused on the actual stadium. Things like a new two story press box, updated restrooms, an upgraded concession stand and brand new ticket booths were among the list of upgrades.

If you’re looking to explore Cypress can you visit Telge Park. This family friendly park features jungle gyms, slides and plenty of picnic tables for events like birthday parties. There is also plenty of land and green grass to just lay a big blanket on and sit and relax on a beautiful spring day. If you’re into hiking and jogging you can do that here as well. There are plenty of marked paths for you to take. Another great park is the Little Cypress Creek Preserve. This picturesque little park is the perfect place to take a walk along a guided trail. Make sure to bring your camera with you to capture some of the beautiful scenery. This park is sprawling and full of exotic birds and foliage.
