Jupiter, Florida

Jupiter is a city of over 60,000 people in Palm Beach County, Florida. It is situated about 15 miles north of West Palm Beach and has Miami further north. It forms a portion of the Miami Metropolitan Area, which had an estimated 6,012,331 million people as of 2015.

The area where the community stands was originally named after the Hobe Indian tribe who inhabited the area around the Loxahatchee River. A misunderstanding of the Spanish name “Hobe” led to it being recorded as “Jove.” Mapmakers later thought the name was the Latin term for the Roman god Jupiter, with this eventually leading to the present name of the town.
