Katy, Texas is located in the Houston – Katy – Woodlands – Sugar Land Metro area. It is located within three counties, Harris, Fort Bend and Waller. The population here is around 16,000 and continues to grow due to the amazing homes available for sale in this area. Katy became incorporated back in 1945 and is approximately 11 square miles. Katy can be found along Interstate 10 which is just 29 miles West of Downtown Houston. Katy is often times referred to as either “Old Towne Katy” or “Greater Katy.” In the “Greater Katy” area you will find large portions of unincorporated land that surrounds the city. If you find yourself in “Old Town Katy” you will find the actual land that was incorporated back in 1945. The boundaries for “Old Towne Katy” run South of Kingsland Boulevard and stretches across Interstate 10 all the way to Morton Road. In the “Greater Katy” area you will find communities like Pine Mill Ranch, Cinco Ranch, Greyson Lakes, Silver Ranch, Cane Island, Grand Lakes, Green Trails, Firethorne and Seven Meadows. There are also older communities here that were developed back in the 70’s and 80’s. Nottingham County and Memorial Parkway Kelliwood are the older, suburban developments from that time period. “Old Towne Katy” might have the word old in it but here you will find newer, more upscale developments such as The Enclave, The Falls at Green Meadows and Pin Oak Village. There is also development underway on the East border of Mary Joe Peckham Park. It is expected to be a residential community in the distant future. Additionally, there is also development for the highly anticipated Katy Boardwalk starting soon. There is a large focus here on the redevelopment of Downtown Katy. This will not only boost the local economy, it will also employ several thousand people. Over time BP might fall to the second slot as the largest employer in Katy.

The Katy Independent School District serves the youth of Katy, Texas. There are four elementary schools, two middle schools as well as four high schools.
