Spring is located within the jurisdiction of Houston in the Harris County portion of the Houston – The Woodlands – Sugar Land Metro area. According to the most recent United States Census report, the population here in Spring, Texas was somewhere around 55,000. Spring is just under 24 square miles in size. The climate here is humid subtropical. The summers tend to be very long and hot whereas the winters tend to be short but cold. During the winter average temperatures are somewhere in the mid 40’s and during the summer months you can expect it to reach the mid 90’s. Here in Spring the weather rarely goes below freezing during the winter or over 100 degrees during the summer. Spring’s history dates back to the 1800’s but it was not until the 1970’s that Spring started to expand. During this time residential areas as well as subdivisions started opening up in this area. At this point in time Spring was known as “Old Town Spring” and many of the homes that were already here were restored and renovated. The homes that were restored in this area became the “Old Town Spring” shopping area. Between the years 1984 and 1989 Spring had about 15,000 or so residents. Then in 1989 Spring started to become a well-known tourist area in Texas. By 1990 Spring has more than 33,000 residents.

In 2014 ExxonMobil opened a corporate campus here along Interstate 45. ExxonMobil made the decision to consolidate their thousands of employees from their Fairfax County, Virginia and Houston locations into this new campus. There are also more than 24 other locations across the Greater Houston area that were consolidated into this new location. When the campus opened back in 2014 there were more than 9,000 employees.

Education in Spring
The Spring Independent School District serves the youth of Spring, Texas. There are eight elementary schools, three middle schools as well as three high schools. There are also several private schools in the area as well as a few Catholic schools. When it comes to higher education there is the Lone Star College which was formally known as the North Harris Montgomery Community College. This community college serves more than just Spring, Texas. It serves the Northern parts of the Greater Houston, Texas area. There are close to 100,000 students enrolled here making the Lone Star College System the largest higher education facility in the Houston area as well as one of the largest and fastest growing community colleges in all of the United States.

Parks and Recreation in Spring
You can head to Southwell Park which is a 5 acre park that has barbecue grills, a basketball court as well as picnic tables and two different playgrounds for the little ones. There is also Bayer Park which is a 30 acre park that features four softball fields and seven baseball fields. All of these fields have lights for use at night. Then there is Pundt Park which is more than 380 acre park that has a canoe launch as well as a playground, a pavilion and public facilities. These parks are great if you want to get out and explore all that Spring, Texas has to offer! If you have kids, these parks are a great place to take them to run off some of their energy.
