Wellington is a village in Palm Beach County Florida, on the state’s South Atlantic Coast. With a population of more than 61,000, Palm Beach is the most populated village in the state. Covering a geographic area of more than 43 mi.², Wellington is located just west of West Palm Beach. Wellington has become known as the winter equestrian capital of the world.

 

Typical of the South Atlantic Coast region, Wellington has a tropical rain forest climate which sees average temperatures reaching 74° in the winter and up to the low 90s in the summer months. The warm temperate climate is one of the major drawing points to living in Wellington, Florida.

 

Enjoying nature and the scenic outdoors is a significant part of Wellington community living and one of the central hubs for nature enthusiasts in the area is the he Wellington Environmental Preserve at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Everglades Habitat. This 365-acre rainwater storage area features stunningly beautiful nature trails as well as learning centers. Visitors can stroll paved pedestrian path and boardwalk to seven designated learning areas. There is also a 3.6 mile perimeter Equestrian Trail that is an extension of the approximately 65-mile Wellington bridle trail system. This beautifully designed and scenic destination was selected by the Palm Beach County Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers as the 2010 Project of the Year.

 

An important part of what makes Wellington an idyllic hometown is its abundant parks and public amenities. The city estimates that approximately 6,000 people visit their facilities and participate in various programs every weekend. The Wellington Amphitheater is a 3,200 square foot facility that includes a top-tier saudio/visual system for community events such as movie nights, music perfromances, plays, and school functions.

 

As the Equestrian Capital of the World it should come as no surprise that Wellington hosts the annual The Winter Equestrian Festival.  The WEF is the largest and longest running equestrian festival running for 12 weeks between January and April each year. Wellington is the ideal location for this event given its more than 57 miles of trails. This elaborate trail system provides local residents the opportunity for recreation, exercise and transportation throughout the community.

 

Schools in Wellington are administered by the Palm Beach County School District. Palm Beach County was recognized as the top performing urban school district in Florida. Amongst the highest rated schools in Wellington are: Wellington Landings Middle School, Equestrian Trails Elementary School, Polo Park Middle School, and Palm Beach Central High School.
