Little Elm is located in Denton County, Texas and is part of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex. Little Elm is actually an extended suburb of Dallas. The most interesting thing about this portion of Texas is that the population has exploded here since the year 2000. When the census was taken that year the population was standing firm at 3,646. Then when the next United States Census poll was taken in 2010 the population had skyrocketed up to 25,898. This made Little Elm one of the fastest growing municipalities in all of Texas at that time. In 2013 the population grew to a little more than 31,000. According to the most recent non census related poll taken back in 2017 the population here grew to almost 47,000! This means that since the 2000 census, more than 40,000 people have moved to Little Elm. If you were to look on a map you would see that Frisco, Texas is to the East, The Colony and Hackberry are to the South, Aubrey, Prosper and Providence are to the North and Cross Roads, Oak Park and Lakewood Village are to the West. According to the United States Census Bureau, Little Elm is a total of 18.6 square miles in size with 4.1 miles of that total area being water. When it comes to the climate here in Little Elm it falls under the category of “Humid Subtropical.” This means that the summer months are going to be hot and often times muggy. The winters on the other hand will be cold and sometimes windy. The cold season here lasts for exactly three months. From November 25th until February 25th the daily average high is a very comfortable 63 degrees. The low for this time is just about 36 degrees. Little Elm only receives on average an inch of snow per year which is great if you were looking to move somewhere where there is hardly any snow to shovel. The hot season lasts for approximately three and a half months. From the beginning of June until mid September the daily average high is around 88 degrees. The low for this time is just about 76 degrees. So the summers here tend to be warm but residents in the area have said they love weather, especially during the summer. The weather here varies between 36 degrees during the winter and about 96 during the summer. But there have been times when the temperature has fallen to about 24 degrees which is usually when that one inch of snow is present. During the summer when heat waves occur there have been times when the temperature has spiked up to 102 degrees but this does not tend to happen more than a few times through out the warmest months. Little Elm also receives the exact US average of 39 inches of rain fall per year.

Education in Little Elm –
The Little Elm Independent School District is the public school system here in Little Elm and serves not only the town of Little Elm but also Lakewood Village and Hackberry. It also serves portions of The Colony, Frisco and Oak Point. There are five elementary schools that serve students in grades kindergarten through fifth here. There is Cesar Chavez, Hackberry, Lakeview, Oak Point and D.H. Brent Elementary. There is the Prestwick STEM Academy which is a kindergarten through eighth grade school. There are currently two middle schools. There is the Colin Powell Sixth Grade Center which is for students in the sixth grade. Then there is the Lakeside Middle School for students in grades seven and eight. In the coming years there will be two new middle schools opening here in Little Elm. The Jerry R. Walker Middle School and the Dr. Lowell H. Strike Middle School are expected to open sometime in the year 2020. Finally there is the Little Elm High School which is the only public school here in Little Elm. It is located in East Central Denton County. This school first opened back in 1995 and in 2009 the school was given a much needed facelift. Then in 2016 a $17.5 million renovation took place here to really bring this school up to the next level to help with the increase in population here in Little Elm. The plans included a new fine arts hall as well as a brand new cafeteria, new classroom wings, a bistro and improved parking as well as general cosmetic improvements. This renovation was completed for the 2017-2018 school year.
