Background on Naperville, Illinois
Naperville is in two counties, DuPage and Will and is a suburb of Chicago. Naperville is located just 28 miles West of Chicago. This portion of Illinois was founded back in 1831. The population here is estimated to be at around 148,000 up from just under 142,000 back in 2010. Back around the time of the last Census, a study was done on cities that had populations exceeding 75,000 and found that Naperville ranked as the wealthiest city in the Midwest as well as the eleventh wealthiest in the nation! Naperville has also been ranked as one of the safest cities to live in in all of the United States by both “USA Today” and “Business Insider.” In 2006 “Money Magazine” ranked Naperville as the second-best place to live in the United States. In 2013 it ranked as one of the best cities for early retirement by “Kiplinger.” Finally, in 2015 Naperville was named as one of the most educated cities in America with a population of more than 50,000. So, as you can see, Naperville is highly decorated and for good reason. This city is safe, educated and one of the best places to live in the United States. Naperville was settled in 1831 and was incorporated years later in 1890. But in 1857 it was first incorporated as a village. In total Naperville is just under 40 square miles in size with only a tiny portion of that being water. The climate here varies during the summer and winter months with the winters tending to be freezing cold. The cold season here lasts for three months. It starts on December 1st and ends around the beginning of March. During this time the daily average high is just below 41 degrees and the low is a frigid 16 degrees. The summer months offer up some relief from the cold and lasts a little longer than the cold season. The warm season here goes for nearly four months. Between May 22nd and September 20th, you can expect to see the daily average high to be around 73 degrees and the average low to be about 65 degrees. Here in Naperville there are times when the weather can dip down to below zero temperatures. When the weather takes a nose dive you can expect it to be very windy and often cloudy. During the summer months it rarely goes above 92 degrees.
Major Employers in Naperville
There are several major employers here in Naperville that are worth mentioning. Edward Hospital is one of the larger employers here with a little more than 4,200 employees. Nicor has around 3,700, Indian Prairie School District has around 3,200, the Naperville Community Unit School District has almost 2,600 and BP America has almost 2,000 employees. These are just a few of the major employers in the area. Naperville is also home to an abundant number of restaurants and shopping centers like Freedom Commons, Springbrook Prairie Pavillon and the Route 59 and Ogden Avenue corridors. Here you will find plenty of things to do on any given day. Getting out and exploring Naperville and all it has to offer is one of the favorite past times of residents here.
One of the coolest and most popular things to do here in Naperville is the Riverwalk. This has been called the “Crown Jewel” of Naperville by many. At the Riverwalk you will find 1.75 miles of bridges, brick paths, artwork, recreational facilities and so much more. This Riverwalk was constructed back in 1981 to commemorate Naperville’s 150th anniversary. You could make an entire day out of visiting this Riverwalk but it is best to do this when it is a little warmer out since it is on the water. One of the prettiest places to visit here is Centennial Beach which is a 15 foot deep body of water that is classified as a beach but no swimming is allowed due to the dangers of such deep water.

There are several popular subdivisions here in Naperville. “White Eagle” is one of them. This gorgeous subdivision has homes ranging in size and price.
