Mesa is located in Maricopa County, Arizona. This suburb is located a little more than 20 miles East of Phoenix. The surrounding areas of Mesa are Temple which is to the West, Chandler and Gilbert which are both located to the South as well as Salt River Pima – Maricopa Indian Community on the North and Apache Junction and Queen Creek on the East. The estimated population here in Mesa as of 2017 was just under 500,000. Mesa is the third largest City in Arizona behind Phoenix and Tucson. Mesa is approximately 139 square miles and only a tiny portion of that is made up of water. One of the most interesting things about Mesa is that it is so long in the East to West directions that people refer to the areas that they live in as either East Mesa or West Mesa. There are several major employers here in Mesa. The top five largest as of 2015 are as follows: The Banner Health System employs almost 10,000 people, the Mesa Public Schools employs around 8,500 people, Boeing employs almost 5,000, the City of Mesa employs roughly 3,600 people and Walmart employs around 2,500. Since this poll was taken back in 2015 these numbers have changed and most likely increased.

Attractions in Mesa
There is so much to do here in Mesa. If you are a sports fan you can take a trip over to Sloan Park. This baseball park holds 15,000 people and was opened back in 2014. It was paid for and built by the residents of the City of Mesa. This decision was included in a ballot during a local election. This ball park serves as the spring training for the Chicago Cubs but it also home to the Arizona League Cubs which is part of the Arizona League as well as the Mesa Solar Sox which is part of the Arizona Fall League. The size and set up of this ball park is almost exact of that of Wrigley Field, which is the home of the Chicago Cubs. This park is also the largest spring training facility in all of Major League Baseball. If you are more into art there is plenty for you to do here as well. The Mesa Arts Center is located in downtown Mesa. This performing and visual arts complex is standing at around 210,000 square feet and cost $95 million to construct back in 2005. The Mesa Arts Centers has so much all within its 210,000 square feet that it might be hard to pick just one thing to do. There is the Farnsworth Studio Theatre that has only 99 seats which makes for a very intimate theatre experience. There is also the 1,600 seat Ikeda Theatre as well as the Mesa Contemporary Arts which has five art galleries in its 5,500 square foot exhibition location. Mesa Arts also has 14 visual and performing arts studios which offers adults and children the option of getting hands on and learning everything from painting and ceramics all the way down to acting and dance. This place is a must see if you live in Mesa.
