Background on Marco Island
There is so much to say about this beautiful portion of Florida. Marco Island is located in Collier County, Florida. Marco Island is located off the coast of Southwest Florida. The population here as of 2016 was just under 18,000. According to the United States Census Bureau, Marco Island is a total is 22.8 square miles and 10.7 miles of that is water. Of all of Southwest Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands area, Marco Island is the largest barrier island. It is also the only developed land in Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands. The climate here in Marco Island is tropical, more specifically a tropical wet and dry or “Savanna type” climate. This area of Florida is known for its wet and dry seasons. Most of the rainfall happens here between the months of June and October. As with much of Florida, the weather here gets hot, especially in the summer months. During the summer you can expect long, very hot, wet days. The hottest part of the year here is between May and October when the daily average high is just under 90 degrees and the average low is around 72 degrees. The winters here are very short and extremely comfortable. The coldest part, if you can call it that, spans from December until the end of February when the daily average high is around 77 degrees and the average low is around 56 degrees. That is not too bad for winter.
Education in Marco Island
The District School Board of Collier County which is also known as Collier County Public Schools serves the youth of Marco Island as well as three other cities throughout the county. This district employs more than 3,200 teachers. Within this district there are 50 schools as well as two charter schools. When it comes to Marco Island there is the Tommie Barfield Elementary School, the Marco Island Charter Middle School and the Marco Island Academy High School. There is also one private school here in Marco Island and that is the Island Montessori Academy.

Collier Boulevard Boating Park – This boating park is one of the most popular boating areas in all of Collier County. The Collier Boating Park can be found on the East side of Collier Boulevard. It has two ramps for launching water vessels. This park’s popularity is due in part to its easy access to the Snook Inn restaurant which boaters in this area love to frequent.
The Marco Walk Plaza is Marco Island’s best shopping destination and one of the biggest tourist attractions in the town. There is so much to do here that it might be hard to narrow your options down. There are speciality shops, salons and spas as well as several dining options for you to choose from. There is Lulu’s Lobster House, Marco Prime Steaks & Seafood, Nacho Mama’s Tex-Mex as well as Rookies Bar and Grill and Dolce Mare.
The Dolphin Explorer – This three hour long guided tour lets you get up close and personal with dolphins. This is great for children and adults alike if you are looking to learn more about the ocean and the role it plays in the eco system. On this tour you can also see other marine mammals and even bird watch. This popular attraction runs at 9am as well as 1pm but make sure that you make a reservation for this since spots fill up fast.
