Livingston is located in Polk County, Texas. It is also the county seat. Back at the time of the 2010 census the population here was 5,335 making Livingston the largest city in Polk County. In 2017 there was a non census poll taken that showed that the current population here was just about 5,200. This portion of Texas is located roughly 75 miles north of Houston, Texas. When the city was originally settled in 1835 it was known as “Springfield.” Fast forward to the year 1846 and the name was changed to Livingston. This was also the year that Polk County was officially named county seat. One of the most interesting things about Livingston is that it is located ten miles East of Lake Livingston. This lake is the largest drinking water reservoir in the entire state of Texas. According to the United States Census Bureau, Livingston is a total of 8.4 square miles with approximately 0.12 miles of that being water. When it comes to the weather here in Livingston it falls under the category of “Humid Subtropical.” This means that the summers are going to be very hot and often times oppressive and the winters will be short but cold and wet. The cold season here runs from the end of November until just about the end of February. During this time the daily average high is just about 67 degrees. The average low for this time is 42 degrees. The hottest part of the year here goes for just about four months. From the end of May until almost the end of September the daily average high is just below 90 degrees. The low for this time of year is a very comfortable 73 degrees. Here in Livingston you will hardly ever see snow which is definitely something to keep in mind if you are looking to live somewhere where you won’t need large winter coats and shovels. This portion of Texas experiences a little bit above the average amount of rain fall coming in at just about 50 inches a year. During the winter you will sometimes see the temperature drop to just about 30 degrees but this does not happen that often. During the summer months you will sometimes see that thermometer spike up to nearly 100 degrees. This is Texas after all and it does tend to get pretty hot here!

One of the largest employers here in Livingston is the Allan B. Polunsky Unit State Prison which is located in West Livingston. The lumber industry is another larger employer here. There are also two regional banks headquartered out here. The First National Bank and the First State Bank can be found right here in Livingston. First State Bank is located in Downtown Livingston and has several branches throughout other parts of the town. First National Bank is located on Highway 190 and has branches in Downtown Livingston as well as in other parts of the town. These banks provide jobs to local residents which helps boost the local economy.

Lake Livingston State Park is a 635 acre park located along Lake Livingston. This park opened back in 1977 and is one of the most popular tourist destinations here. There is so much to do here. Most people that come here spend hours swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. If you are not into water based activities you can hike or bike on the trails or bird watch. You can also go on a guided tour of the grounds and even camp here. Camping is one of the main things that people do here during the warmer months.
