Palmetto is a small coastal city in Manatee County in the state of Florida. It is included in the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The establishment of this city is credited to Samuel Sparks Lamb, who is often described as the "Father of Palmetto." Lamb, owner of a general merchandise store in the area, was said to have been the one who carried out the survey and did the plotting of the city in the earlier years. He supposedly donated plots of land belonging to him for its creation. A post office under the "Palmetto" name started operating in 1868. The city was named for the palmetto trees that grew near its original location.
