LaGrange, Georgia
Located in the west central part of the state of Georgia, LaGrange is a city of about 30,000 and county seat of Troup County. It covers an area of about 112 miles, of which around 111 miles is land. The LaGrange area was originally inhabited by the Creek Indians. It was settled in the early 19th century after it was ceded by the locals. The city was named for the country estate of General Marquis de La Fayette near Paris. The French and American hero, who visited the state of Georgia several times, had observed to Governor Troup on one of his visits that the local landscape reminded him of his estate back in France. This somewhat influenced the townspeople to opt for LaGrange as their town’s name. The city was incorporated in 1828.

The city is home to Bellevue, the historic home of Senator Benjamin Harvey Hill, which is a classic example of awesome Greek Revival architecture. LaGrange College, Georgia’s oldest private college, is also located there.
