Fairburn, Georgia

Founded in 1833, Fairburn is a small city in Fulton County, Georgia. It is a thriving community for both business and family, situated about 15 minutes away from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The location where Fairburn currently stands is believed to have been settled around 1830. At its founding in 1833, it was named Cartersville. But the name was changed to Berryville a year later. The charter for the town, whose present name was thought to have been influenced by a town of the same name in York, England, was enacted in 1854 by the state legislature.

Its rise to prominence was fueled by the Atlanta & West Point Railroad that passed through the town. The railroad was originally planned to pass through the-then Campbell County seat, Campbellton, but it was rejected because of anticipated noise. However, Fairburn put up with the inconvenience and benefited in rapid growth, with the railroad contributing to propel it to becoming the county seat of Campbell County in 1871.

The number of residents in Fairburn has been slowly, but steadily, rising over the years. The population doubled in the 10 years from 2000 to 2010, rising from 5,464 to 12,950. As of 2015, city inhabitants were estimated at almost 14,000. The median age of those living here is below the state average and the number of college students is above the state average. Some figures show that those aged 44 years or younger in Fairburn stand at about a staggering 70 percent! This looks like a great place for young individuals and families. The education level of residents compares against the national average.

Fairburn is positioned along Interstate 85 which stretches northeast to downtown Atlanta and southwest to Montgomery in Alabama. Also running through the city is Georgia State Route 74, with this extending south to Peachtree City. Many people here make use of public transportation, especially buses, to get to their respective work places. A significant proportion of city residents work in neighboring cities.

The city is served by Fulton County Schools. Public schools in the area include Renaissance Elementary School, Renaissance Middle School, Campbell Elementary School, and Creekside High School. Landmark Christian School and Arlington Christian School are two of the private schools in the city, which is also home to a satellite campus of Brenau University.

Durham Lakes, Lakes at Cedar Grove and Autumn Lakes are among Fairburn's most popular communities. The city has a handful of parks where families can enjoy time together. Principal among these parks is the Clarence Duncan Memorial Park, which is in the vicinity of Durham Lakes. The park offers lighted tennis courts, playground, indoor swimming pool featuring retractable roof, hiking nature trails and picnic shelters, among other amenities.

Cedar Grove Park, located about 2 miles away from Clarence Duncan Park, is another place residents can check out for fun. The area’s attractions include Georgia Rehabilitation of Wildlife Center and Fairburn Commercial Historic City. The Georgia Renaissance Festival is another thing of interest in the city.

Fairburn is a community that cherishes its past while also working to measure up to contemporary expectations. It is a family-friendly city with access to decent transportation system and several public and private schools for younger people. Talking about young people, this is a great city for such.
