Tempe is located in Maricopa County, Arizona and was once known as Hayden’s Ferry. This city is named after the “Vale of Tempe” which is located in Greece. The population here as of 2017 was more than 185,000. Tempe can be found in the East Valley portion of metropolitan Phoenix. The low for this time is just about 44 degrees. The summer months can often see temperatures shoot up to 111 degrees. Since the climate here is partly a desert climate, the air can often feel very dry. That is because there is hardly any humidity in the air since there is virtually no precipitation.

Major Employers and Arizona Mills –
There are many large companies here in Tempe that help boost the economy. Arizona State University employs just shy of 8,800 people and State Farm employs roughly 8,500. These are the two of the largest employers here in Tempe. Besides them, Wells Fargo employs 3,300 people, US Airways employs more than 2,500, ABM Industries employs a little more than 2,000, JP Morgan Chase employs just under 2,000 and the Tempe Elementary School District employs about 1,700 people. Besides these employers, there is Arizona Mills which is an indoor shopping mall. This 1.2 million square foot mall has more than 200 retailers and was opened back in 1997. This shopping mall not only employs several hundred people, it is also one of the biggest tourist attractions here in Tempe. This mall is so large that is has more than 6,000 parking spots! “Hughes Acres” is a neighborhood that is located less than 7 minutes from Arizona State University. This area is perfect for people who want to live in an urban setting.
