Sugar Land is in Fort Bend County, Texas and is part of the Southwestern portion of the Houston – The Woodlands – Sugar Land Metro area. Sugar Land is located around 19 miles Southwest of Downtown Houston. Back in the 19th century Sugar Land was home to an expansive sugar plantation, then in 1908 many of the local plantations were consolidated into the Imperial Sugar Company. Sugar Land is exactly 34 square miles in size and only a few miles of that is made up of water. It should comes as no surprise that Sugar Land is still the home and headquarters of Imperial Sugar.
