Geography on Peoria
Peoria is a city located in both Maricopa and Yavapai counties in Arizona. Peoria actually annexed more than 170 square miles so it could be part of two different counties; Maricopa and Yavapai County. The majority of the city is located in Maricopa County but there is a small portion that is located in the North which is in the Yavapai County. This area is a major suburb of Phoenix. Peoria is the sixth largest city in Arizona when it comes to land area. The city encompasses approximately 141.7 square miles, 3.5 square miles of that is water. As of 2016 the estimated population was hovering around 165,000. Back in July of 2008 Money Magazine named Peoria as one of the top 100 places to live in the United States. The only two rivers that flow through Peoria are The Agua Fria River and New River. There are also several other creeks that flow through the city, the most well known is the Skunk Creek. The popularity of Skull Creek is due to its trails and the connection to Glendale which is close by. There are also a lot of mountains and hills on the Northern end. The East Wing Mountain, Cholla Mountain, White Peak and Sunrise Mountain are just a few.

Weather in Peoria
The weather in Peoria varies but for the most part it is very hot and dry. The winter months are generally cooler and mild. The hottest season in Peoria lasts from the end of May until mid-September when the average daily high is 98 degrees and the low is generally around 81 degrees. The cooler season lasts from mid-November until the end of February when the daily average temperature is around 73 degrees and the average low is around 43 degrees.

Education in Peoria
There are 23 elementary schools within the Peoria Unified School District. There are four high schools in the Peoria area; Peoria, Centennial, Sunrise Mountain and Liberty. There is also several publicly funded charter elementary and high schools in the Peoria area. Additionally, back in 2013, Trine University opened a campus here. There are also two beauty schools here in Peoria as well as 25 additional beauty schools within thirty miles of here.

Spring Training
Peoria is the spring training home of both the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. They share the Peoria Sports complex. This complex is the first Major League Baseball Spring Training facility to be shared by two teams in the country. It was built back in 1994 and is utilized by both the Mariners and Padres year-round. Recently the complex received some upgrades. A coastal themed playground and splash zone was built for the kids and a brand-new digital scoreboard was constructed. There is also an adult only area called the “Craft Courtyard” which features microbrews and other adult beverages from places like California, the Pacific Northwest and Arizona.
