Learn More About Parrish, Florida

Parrish is a growing unincorporated community located in Manatee County in the state of Florida. It lies in the proximity of the point of intersection between U.S. Route 301 and State Road 62. Made up of five neighborhoods, the peaceful community which has seen significant real estate development in recent years is included in the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The unincorporated community was founded by Crawford Parrish of Georgia. He moved with his wife Mary Bratcher Vanzant to an area now known as the Suwanee River, where they bought land. He was a rancher who later became an orange grower. Parrish moved to the Manatee River area in 1867 after selling the Suwanee River land. He built a home along the banks of the river in an area now known as Oak Hill. The community received a post office known as Parish in 1879. The Parrish name was adopted in 1950.

Although it remains an unincorporated community, Parrish has seen significant growth in recent years, so much so it has become larger than many cities in the United States. The influx of people to the area reflects on the local real estate. The housing stock around here ranks among the newest in the state of Florida. Just recently, Manatee County gave approval for two new developments around the Buckeye Road and Lorraine Corners Northeast to cater to potential residents. These will add about 1,000 homes, more than 500,000 square feet of commercial space, a community center, and probably a school.

One of the sterling qualities of Parrish is its serene ambiance. This is not unconnected to a somewhat low population density. In addition, it has lower number of those groups that are generally known to be noisy such as young kids and college students. The community boasts a significantly high proportion of well-educated residents than an average American city – more adults here have at least a Bachelor’s degree.

Among the interesting places in Parrish is the recently-opened HoPE Museum, which was established to showcase the heritage of the lovely community. It represents an active effort by the locals to keep their roots alive. It features exhibits from the earlier years, including old pictures, railroad images and building deeds. The museum also has ancient artifacts and a diorama which shows what the community used to look like in its earlier years.

Another of the attractions in Parrish is the Florida Railroad Museum, an old railroad that still operates round-trip passenger rides on weekends from the northern section of the community to Willow. Residents also have easy access to many beautiful, amazing clean beaches around, including Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key and Sarasota beaches.

Parrish is an excellent place for people who appreciate remarkable serenity. It also appears like a great community for those interested in having educated individuals as their neighbors. The decently high level of education of the people here partly explains why it is such a fairly quiet place. The area also offers a lot to do during your leisure. It seems to be attracting a high number of affluent families in recent years.
