Maricopa is located in the Gila River Valley in Arizona. The estimated population here is roughly 50,000 as of 2018. Maricopa is part of the Phoenix Metro Area. According to the United States Census Bureau, Maricopa is approximately 43 square miles in size with a very small portion of that being water. Maricopa did not become incorporated until 2003 making it the 88th incorporated city in Arizona. One of the most interesting things about this portion of Arizona is that between the years 2000 and 2010 the population went from just 1,040 to almost 44,000! That is a huge increase in just a decade. The climate here in Maricopa is categorized as a desert climate. What that means is that the summers here tend to be very, very hot and often times oppressive. The winters however tend to be mild to cool and dry. The coldest portion of the year here goes from November 21st until February 25th when the daily average high is a very comfortable 72 degrees. The low for this time of year is just about 40 degrees. The hot season here lasts from May 27th until September 19th when the daily average high is a staggering 97 degrees. The low for this time is just under 80 degrees. So sometimes the low for the hot season is close to the same as the high during the cold season. In Maricopa you will rarely see the weather dip below freezing or go above 111 degrees during the summer months. That last number does sound a bit high but Maricopa is in a desert climate so that is to be expected here.

The two main school districts here in Maricopa are the “Maricopa Unified School District” as well as the “Mobile Elementary School District.” Within these school districts there are seven elementary schools. Butterfield, Mobile, Maricopa, Pima Butte, Saddleback, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa. There are two middle schools and they are the Desert Wind and Maricopa Wells Middle Schools. There is one high school and that is the Maricopa High School. There is also a number of Charter schools in the area. There is the Camino Montessori School, the Graysmark Academy, the Holsteiner Agricultural School, the Leading Edge Academy, the Legacy Traditional School as well as the Sequoia Pathway Academy. So, there are lots of options when it comes to education here in Maricopa.

There are several beautiful subdivisions here in Maricopa. “Cobblestone Farms” is one of those subdivisions. The homes here range in size from 1,500 square feet all the way up to 4,000 square feet. This subdivision is within proximity to the I-10 Freeway which makes for an easy commute to work or recreation. Fulton Homes is the builder of these gorgeous homes and if you are looking for a house with a basement, this subdivision is the only one in Maricopa that has that type of model. “Maricopa Meadows” is another wonder subdivision that offers up lake views as well as a family friendly community. In this subdivision you will find one of the only golf courses in the area. In this area there is also a movie theatre, bowling alley, arcade and even an aquatic center. There is also a state park as well as a dog park not too far away from this beautiful neighborhood. “Province” is the only active adult community (55 and over) in the area. Within this adult only community you will find a 32,000 square foot clubhouse that features things like a café, ceramics studio, indoor poor and so much more. The best part about this community is that it is gated for that extra feeling of security.

Major Employers in Maricopa
Even though Maricopa is a larger city there are not a ton of businesses here but there are a few major employers in the area. The Maricopa Unified School District and Harrah’s AK-Chin Casino are the two largest employers in the area. Walmart and the City of Maricopa are the two other major employers here.
