Locust Grove, Georgia
Named for a picturesque grove of locust trees that could be noticed across the area, Locust Grove is a small city in Henry County in the state of Georgia. This community, which has witnessed significant growth in population over the past couple of decades, is located at the southeastern fringe of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Its postal address is shared by Luella and some other unincorporated areas as well as several rural communities in surrounding locations.
Locust Grove grew as an important distribution center for farm products, such as cotton and peaches. It had cotton gins and several warehouse in the earlier years. The first store in the community was erected on Main Street in 1870. It was incorporated in 1893, with its limits at the time stretching out about a quarter of a mile in all directions from the heart of the town, depicted by the train depot. Locust Grove was reincorporated in 1922.
