Griffin, Georgia
Griffin is a city in Spalding County, Georgia. It is the county seat and part of the Atlanta metro area. The city, which falls among those built to foster true community spirit, has Atlanta to the north. It is made up primarily of 12 neighborhoods. The annual average temperature in the area is about 62 degrees, while the average annual rainfall is 53”.
Founded in 1840, Griffin was named after Col. Lewis Lawrence Griffin, a landowner. It is an ethnically-diverse community, with people of numerous racial groupings living here. The city is the 38th-largest community in the state of Georgia. It is easily accessible to Interstates 75, 85 and 285. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is located less than an hour away.

The city has a Southern Crescent Technical College branch. A branch campus is also maintained in Griffin by the University of Georgia. The proportion of adults in the community with a college degree is lower than the national average, but not so much so.
In recent years, Griffin has been making efforts to promote itself as a community for the arts, from fine arts to crafts and chorals. The Griffin Area Arts Alliance plays a pivotal role in this regard. The organization worked toward the restoration of the Griffin Auditorium, a 1100-seat facility which is used for the annual concert series of the Griffin Community Concert Association and some other performances and events.
There are several annual festivals in Griffin which provide great excitement to not only residents but visitors from other places. One of this is the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Iris City Arts and Crafts Festival. The annual, two-day event, which is held in April around City Park, provides great local entertainment. It attracts numerous artists and craftsmen as well as clubs and organizations that seize the opportunity to raise funds for charitable projects.
Another major attraction is the Kiwanis Spalding County Fair held every October. This event not only appeal to the old, but also to the young with games and rides part of exciting activities at the event. These events and several others also give attendees opportunity to be awed by the distinctive architecture of the historic Griffin downtown.
