Fountain Hills is in Maricopa County, Arizona. This town is well known for its fountain which can shoot water close to 600 feet in the air. The hottest part of the year here goes from the very end of May until almost the end of September when the daily average high is around 95 degrees. The low for this period is just above 80 degrees hence the name “hot desert climate.” The coolest part of the year here goes from mid November until the very end of February when the daily average high is just about 71 degrees. The low for this time is a cool 42 degrees. Here in Fountain Hills you will rarely see the weather dip below 35 during the winter or go above 109 during the summer.
The Fountain
As previously mentioned, Fountain Hills is home to a fountain that is the fourth largest in the world. It was built back in 1970 by Robert P. McCulloch. This fountain sprays water for 15 minutes every hour between 9am and 9pm every day. This fountain was once the largest fountain in the world for more than a decade but has since fallen to number four on the list. This is something that you need to check out if you live here in Fountain Hills! Besides the fountain, Fountain Hills has three annual fairs. The first is a smaller, local art fair, the second is the “Fountain Hills Great Fair” which is a mixture of arts and a carnival. The third is the “Thunderbird Artists’ Fountain Hills Fine Art & Wine Affaire.” The wine and arts event is for people 21 and over and is a showcase of more than 125 local artists as well as winemakers. This event takes place right near the fountain which is a main focal point of this event. Besides these awesome events, ever year on St. Patrick’s Day the fountain is dyed green to help the town celebrate the holiday. This is something many people look forward to since seeing green water thrust almost 600 feet in the air is not something you see everyday!
Education in Fountain Hills
Here in Fountain Hills the “Fountain Hills Unified School District” serves students in grades K-12. There are two elementary schools, Four Peaks Elementary School and McDowell Mountain Elementary School. There is one middle school which is the Fountain Hills Middle School. There is also one high school and that is the Fountain Hills High School. The enrollment in all these schools is a little less than 2,400 which means the schools here are not over crowded.
Real Estate in Fountain Hills
The real estate here in this desert community is absolutely gorgeous. “Crestview At Fountain Hills” is one of the most sought after subdivisions here in this portion of Arizona. The homes here are quite large and offer some extremely high end finishes and amenities. Most homes here have at least four bedrooms and at least three bathrooms. Most homes have their own private pools and spas as well as granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. These homes are also found on quite spacious lots which is great if you don’t want to be right on top of your neighbors. Out the back there are beautiful views of the mountains for you to look at in the morning when you are drinking a cup of coffee.
