Hollywood is a city located in Broward County, Florida. Part of the Miami Metropolitan Area, it is considered one of the principal cities in Florida with a population of over 110,000 people. Hollywood was founded in 1925 by Joseph W. Young, who wanted to build a motion picture colony on the other coast of the United States. Inspired by the west coast film industry, he named his dream city Hollywood as well. Young had a plan to have lakes and golf courses and luxury resorts in his new city, but the 1926 hurricane destroyed his dream, when it devastated the newly founded Hollywood.
Even though it had a stream of bad luck during its first few decades - being on the hurricane path took its toll on the city - Hollywood has overcome its obstacles and now thrives as a successful business hub.
