Galveston can be found off of the Southeast coast on both Galveston and Pelican Island in Texas. Galveston is a coastal resort city which is roughy 210 square miles in size. Galveston Independent School District serves the city when it comes to education. Within the school district there are six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. There are also several charter schools that are not affiliated with the Galveston School District. These charter schools are state funded. These schools cater to students from kindergarten through eighth grade. There are also a few private schools in Galveston. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston – Houston operates two Roman Catholic private schools. These schools are the Holy Family Catholic School which is for grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Then there is the O’Connell College Prep School which is for young adults in grades nine through twelve. There are several other private schools in the area as well. When it comes time for college there are two options. Galveston College is a junior (community) college that has 2,400 undergraduate students. Spirit Airlines is the main airline that flys out of this airport. In 2017 this airport served more than 40 million passengers making it one of the busiest airports in the United States!
