Pembrooke Pines is a large city in Broward County, Florida on the state’s southeast Atlantic Coast. Located just over 18 miles west of Fort Lauderdale, Pembrooke Pines covers a land area of approximately 35 square miles. with a population of more than 162,500. One major reason for Pembrooke Pines being seen as a very liveable city is its abundant access to public parks and green space. The city overseas no less than 38 public and community parks. For those looking to get some exercise in the beautiful Florida sunshine, Ben Fiorendino Park is a popular destination. This beautiful lakeside park has a walking/jogging path as well as a large pavilion with benches. There are also plenty of exercise stations positioned throughout the park that can use as part of their workout. Pembrooke pines residents who are looking to be active in team sports will gather at the pines recreation center. This impressive multi sport facility includes seven lighted baseball fields, for batting cages, six outdoor lighted basketball courts, for lighted football/soccer fields, to paddleball courts, a pavilion, a hockey rink, and a playground.
Another huge drawing card for the city is its truly impressive arts and culture offerings. Pembrooke Pines boasts two different top tier performing arts centers in Pembroke Pines Theatre of Performing Arts (PPTOPA) and the Susan B. Katz Theater of Performing Arts. The PPTOPA is the oldest continuously operating community theatre in Broward County. The Susan B Katz Theatre is a 442 seat venue that regularly plays host cultural and other performance groups. Other cultural facilities in the city include Studio 18, a fine art gallery and studio work space for professional artists as well as the Fletcher Art & Cultural Center.
Schools in Pembrooke Pines are run by the Broward County Public School District which has the distinction of being the second largest in the state and the sixth largest in the nation. The district oversees 236 schools and 271,000 students.
