Tucked away in a small village in East Tennessee with over an acre of enfolding natural forest is a tasteful, gracious, light, bright and airy architecturally custom designed contemporary home. Some who visit call our home a lovely, serene and safe harbor with its wall of Tennessee river rock. Others call it a subtle chalet of peace, quiet and tranquility.
Early morning walks, or late afternoon strolls in our natural stone landscaped gardens bring joy to each person. On some days one can just sit on the garden bench to see the beauty that surrounds the home. Hummingbirds flock to their nectar feeder on the large rear covered deck and they can also be viewed from the kitchen windows. Squirrels play in the forest as songbirds enjoy their own feeders and bath.
All this beauty and tranquility lies within a village that is perfectly situated to take advantage of the transportation, shopping, services and the Tennessee Riverthat are close by.
Entering the home through the etched glass double front doors brings you into a welcoming entry hall with ample coat closet and a half bath that serves the living areas on the first floor. To the right is the entry to the master bedroom and to the left is the great room, dining area and open access to the kitchen. Also, there is the stair to the second floor loft and second master bedroom.
The entire first floor is ceramic tile with solid wood flooring in the loft, making care and cleaning easy and convenient. Custom lighting, wood burning fireplace with glass tile surround, custom hand crafted shelving and cabinets around the fireplace for books and collectables or art enhance the feeling of serenity found in the great room. The soaring ceilings in the great room bring the eye upwards to view and enjoy a wall filled with art. Large windows bring the forest inside to continue the feel of privacy and quiet. The great room area is nearly 400 square feet and the ceiling slopes upward to 16 feet above the floor with track lights running the entire length of the ceiling to highlight artwork displayed on the high wall. The dining area is open and spacious with more windows bringing the outdoors into the room.
The kitchen welcomes you to double doors to the 320 square foot covered rear porch. The kitchen abounds with custom made natural finished maple cabinets featuring adjustable shelving and glass front doors. The upper cabinets extend to the ceiling for additional storage. Countertops are of “Silestone” (an ultra high quality quartz material). The backsplash above the countertops is made of miniature glass tile that matches the fireplace surround. This theme of maple cabinetry, Silestone tops and glass tile backsplash carries through to the laundry at the rear of the kitchen. A large window overlooks the rear covered porch above the porcelain chef’s sink to allow unobstructed views of the rear forest and deck. The kitchen appliances and fixtures are top quality and professionally installed.
The laundry room features an extra deep porcelain soaking sink, eight cabinets, hanging rod and under-counter refrigerator. There is another door to the rear deck and a window looking to the back yard. At the end of the room opposite the rear door is the pantry. There are wood shelves that are eighteen and twenty four inches deep from floor to ceiling with interior lighting and a pocket door that does not get in the way of the pantry or laundry room. From the kitchen is a door to the attached double car garage.
The master bedroom is a study in comfort and convenience. At the entry are two linen closets that total seven feet in length. The bedroom itself is 260 square feet in size with two huge windows overlooking the side rock garden. Off this room is a very large closet that could easily double as a home office. It is currently used as a storage room for a collection of fine linens and other collectables.
The master bath features a whirlpool tub, separate large shower, commode and twin lavatories in eight feet of cabinetry. The master closet is off the bath and features over 75 square feet of space for clothes storage.
In the second floor loft you will find a complete second master suite. The bedroom area is 310 square feet in size and the outer wall is trapezoidal glass with a balcony through sliding glass doors. The ceiling slopes upward to visually open up the room to the forest outside. The bath includes a tub/shower combination, commode and lavatory. There is also a walk-in closet off the bedroom and a concealed storage room behind the closet,
There are far too many features about our home to describe here. We completely renovated this unique home in 2006 with the goal of minimizing maintenance by utilizing highest quality fixtures and appliances and creating a comfortable flow throughout the home. The result is a wonderful haven of peace and tranquility that makes you eager to come home.
The climate here in east Tennessee is mild and conducive to outdoor living. The gardens provide four season color and interest while the wood burning fireplace takes the chill away from cool winter mornings and evenings. Seven ceiling fans inside the house give cooling summer breezes in all areas of the home. There is another ceiling fan on the covered rear porch to circulate air and provide comfortable lounging. Not a "cookie cutter" home, but a home of intregrity with superior style of living in a very special place.
