What we love about this house: Raising our children in this house has been a wonderful experience. The large sunny kitchen always made for terrific family time whether it was for meals, homework or socializing. Curling up by the gas fireplace and watching a movie or TV on a chilly winter evening was the perfect ending for many a busy day. In our 16 years here, we hosted many get-togethers in the pleasant yard -- around the pool, both casual and more formal dinner parties, kids' parties, and Independence Day celebrations with a perfect view of the town's firework display without battling the crowds and traffic!
If we weren't relocating, we could see this house as the perfect place to comfortably age. One could fully live on the first floor only, reserving the second floor for guest rooms. The living room is large enough to use part of it as an artist space, an office, or for a separate reading nook. The yard has lots of space for an avid gardener, to putter around with a golf club, or to sit and contemplate the views.
This house is easy to maintain and comfortable. We admit to liking the house a bit warmer in the winter and our fuel bills have always been manageable -- the house is well-insulated and the Buderus furnace (baseboard forced hot water) works beautifully (average of 700 gallons of oil used each year). The building exterior is covered in siding that can be powerwashed in just a few hours.
We own a business in which we buy and sell antiques. Since we do not have a bricks-and-mortar storefront anymore, we store our inventory in the house. Between the large dry basement and the attic spaces on each side of the second floor bedrooms, we have been able to store enormous amounts of antiques and collectibles. You can tell from some of our photos that we still have a lot of inventory in the house and basement, but we are clearing out to an alternative location.
The Mount Pleasant neighborhood is less than a mile from Route 7 and downtown Brandon. Driving up the small hill reveals a quiet neighborhood with single family homes which are well-maintained. Neighbors are friendly but the homes are spaced far enough apart to ensure privacy. Our lot, one of the older ones in the development, has a full acre of land. Backing up our property is a 70 acre field, owned by a local farming family and planted seasonally with corn. We love the sweeping views and the gorgeous sunsets.
