Built in 1937 as the gym for the Beaver School , it functioned as a basketball gym and playhouse until the school closed in 1964. It has been completely remodeled into a 4800+ sqft home with two half lofts and exquisite cedar paneling. It retains the original hemlock flooring with the authentic basketball court lines. This remodeled masterpiece is a must-see, and sure to make a fabulous conversation piece amoung your acquantances. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and 2 half baths, and at 4800 squarefeet, the rooms are large and spacious. The great room is perfect for hosting parties. The extensive kitchen exhibits custom made hickory cabinets with beautiful granite countertops and a large river rock fireplace sits overlooking the greatroom from the "school stage." In the evenings, you can relax in the jacuzzi tub, or sit back in a hammock on the 800sqft deck overlooking Beaver Prairie where two separate herds of Roosevelt Elk graze. The perfect location for great fishing, hiking, and hunting, it is just minutes from Sol Duc Hot Springs, the Hoh Rainforest, coastal beaches and beautiful lakes.
Our home is perfectly situated on Beaver hill to have a spectacular view of the valley, and waking up to watch the herds of elk free roam in the fields below is peaceful. The property has few neighbors, which gives the home a very private feel. The area is fabulous for adventurous outdoors people, with a practically limitless supply of outdoor activities.
Love the atmosphere of the home that could be described as cozy and rustic yet mixed with opulence. Each room is spacious and allows creativity in decorating. It also allows the owner to throw large parties and have no feeling of being crowded.
I love the unique history of the home. Many people in the area remember going to school at the Beaver school and played frequently in our home when it was a gym. Also, the school yard was built on the premises of the "tragedy graveyard," a small graveyard whose 13 gravesites' exact location has been lost. Archer K Smith wrote a book that has ample information on the grave yard called Tragedy Graveyard, The Starbucks Ghost and Other True Stories: A Collection of Old True Happenings Taking Place Mostly on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. And there is an article in the local paper at http://www.forksforum.com/lifestyle/281138222.html .
